How to Replace Video WIFI Card: This is like a 5-15$ upgrade. Go find any Intel 7265ngw off eBay and replace it with your current WIFI card. If you don’t want to buy used then here. How to Replace Video RAM: Ram prices have tanked because of bitcoin mining, so this has become quite a cheap upgrade as well. If your willing to spend $100+ then easily the i7-4790t (45w). That is probably the best processor to put in the Alpha. All 45w will be used giving you 3.9 GHz Turbo. I'm thinking of replacing the GPU with something like a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080/2070 so I can link my Oculus Quest (the AMD chips seem to be buggy with Oculus), and improve the viewing experience on my monitor. I play World of Tanks almost exclusively, but may head into Red Dead, or racing sims. I also watch Netflix on the PC. My questions: 1. I think it's OK to mix the Nvidia with the AMD CPU. Correct? 2. Would the CPU need an upgrade because of the jump in GPU? 3. Would DRAM need an upgrade? 4. Any advice either on the GPU, or video board manufacturer? I've been working from Tom's list of GPUs. AMD Threadripper 3970x - My adventure so far (Will edit as I go)
I own a gaming community called Unknown Skies gaming (For a little Context) and we are planning a server upgrade. Currently we have a Dell R620 with Dual E5-2690 V2's Running @ 3.3Ghz, has 196GB Ram. The game we host on this rig is called Empyrion Galactic Survival. The reason for the upgrade is currently the server just isnt high end enough to continue supporting our target playerbase of 100 players, and Performance has dipped due to the game being alpha and the devs are not doing much to improve server side efficiency. Back in 7.0 we could host 150 players on this machine, now it struggles with 60... Yeah big change in 2 years. After a lot of research... I can clearly see Intel Xeon Gold 6154 CPUs (2 of them) do not outperform even the R9 3950x according to passmark. The price of these used intel servers is stunningly high on the used market... Dual 18 Core XG 6154 Processors with 128gb ram (Dell R740 I think, feel free to correct me) cost right around 10,000$ USD Used give or take 1000$ or so... And get stomped on by an 800$ Single Socket CPU... Thats new and has a warranty... I get that it doesnt support as much memory... But Dang... So I looked into threadripper... HOLY SHAT!! The 3970x hits 60k+ in passmark... And the ENTIRE system with a custom cooling loop is less than 6 Grand? Thats nuts to me! Amazing Deal! Im sad all my servers and rigs are intel hahahahaha. What we need, What im aiming for, and my thought process - Feel free to leave thoughts and suggestions.. AMD Threadripper 3970x (Because High Per thread throughput matters due to shit code, and more players on a playfield means more cpu usage on that thread, Lots of threads matter as every playfield opens a new PlayfieldServer.exe and is its own instance so the more spread out players are, the more cores you need to spread out workload. 32 cores 64 threads... Could NOT find one that I didnt have to modify. Went with El-cheapo option cause imma be drilling it and modding it internally - RosewillServerChassis Server Case Rackmount Case for BitcoinMining4U off ebay I think it will work, and if not I have a file server that would LOVE the home LMAO. So it was well worth the Chance. Water cooling Solution I settled on was a Thermaltake Floe TR4 Edition. I thought about using a Custom Cooling loop, but by the time I priced everything out the way I would do it... It came out to like 500$ ish LMAO. The above cooler From what I can tell should be sufficient, and should fit in the case i chose. Tight fit, but should fit. sorry if this is a downer post, but I literally had to find and join this sub-reddit just to be able to get some shit off my chest from today and life as a whole right at the moment... thank you for having this Reddit exist, first and foremost, because life sucks for me lately, in general, and for a good number of years, and I am having one hell of a bad day and just need to get this shit off my chest before I have a meltdown. so thank you for whomever created this sub-reddit. anywho... hey, how's it going, my name is Mike IRL, but I just go by the name High Voltage online, I am a furry, and to use a short and to the point name everyone calls me anymore, I'm just gonna say Hey, I'm volt. anyways... I'm an autistic furry, I love life...usually...but as of these last handful of years, life has just been one hell of a suck fest. I am a computer geek, self taught, by nature, passion, and habit, I love technology, but the more I learn, the more I realize Murphy is a vindictive bitch. Murphy in this case is Murphy's law, and me and that little shithead have a love hate relationship... I love technology, he loves to make technology hate my guts, and the more I learn about shit, the more I can tell just how much shit goes wrong in ways that are uncommon for me, and for general life. I have friends in the tech industry, that all unanimously agree, and I quote them all here "how the FUCK do you have so many things go wrong?!" this includes a friend who works for dell as a storage expert, a friend that's a tech support call center representative, and a plethora more friends that are just over all tech heads. one point I need to get off my chest. another thing, is that for the life of me, for the last 10 years since graduation from high school, nothing I do is allowing me to get my ass in a tech job, no amount of experience personally taught, no amount of tech certifications make any difference, nothings helping and I've had to jump from one dead end job to another, just to be able to even afford to survive, and hell, that's a joke in and of itself, cause I cant even afford to be alive, and live, I am barely scraping by, ever, and am forced to live with my parents because I cant even afford subsidized housing, section 8 or otherwise. per my autism and other issues, I have to take prescriptions just to function in society, which on their own, cost more than I have ever made in a month at any job I've ever had to date, given they are around 8k a month without insurance. on the comment of insurance, I have to use medicaid/medicare just to be able to afford to be alive, which in turn makes me have an income limit per month, so I cant ever make more than about 1 thousand dollars in a month, making my whopping glorious yearly income, four thousand dollars a year less than poverty, which is classified here in my state as 16 thousand dollars a year. usually this does not bother me and I'm able to maintain a fairly positive outlook on life, plus or minus my usual depression...and I don't usually let things bug me, and have made in my opinion, a name for myself as being generous, and donating money whenever I'm able to to those less fortunate than myself, countless times I've helped keep friends of mine online whom I have never actually met, and hold credible for being in the situations they claim to be at face value because I trust people and I'm a compassionate person... I have been told so many times by my parents that I'm too trusting, that I have literally lost count... I have even been scolded by my father once for, and I quote, "your not an entrepreneur, strive for mediocrity!" while a friend of mine was at my house in the basement waiting on me, when my father found out, while I still had my income cap, BEFORE government regulations happened, regulating bitcoin as a taxable asset (I have since gotten out of the bitcoin game for a few years now and it served its purpose while it lasted) but all of these things are normally manageable on their own in stride.... the thing that's finally just caused me to have enough at this point is the fact that I just realized how truly shitty my current discovery is right now.... more on that one in a moment however... the one thing that I have always been proud of is this, the fact that I am self taught for all of my computer experience that I have amassed to date, including but not limited to having to be resourceful on finding good deals, given that I found and paid for myself on my measly income, all of the servers that I have to date at my ownership, all found through scrounging for deals, on Facebook marketplace, and driving literally half the entire state of Ohio one way trip to find a deal for a thing I'm after, I have HAD to be resourceful for everything, because I had nothing for income... this includes having to plan and build my own data server using second hand parts, whenever possible, and I have not had any regrets on that, because it has allowed me to get still working systems for damn good prices... so I have never, until today, regretted that... because it has always been mine, built with pride, pride that I found good deals on things, that still worked, and still had usefulness to someone (me) and gave these devices a second lease on life, for good prices, and it was something I did myself, through sheer determination, patience (something I severely lack, and the entire reason I fish for catfish when me and my folks go fishing), and resourcefulness. welp....honestly, at this point, I don't know what the hell to do now, because out of all of the drives that I have tested so far that this thing uses, after having lost unimaginable quantities of priceless memories that I can never get back, thousands and thousands of dollars in software I cant get back (one of many failures of the storage server, and mistakenly purged gmail emails, leaving zero traces of the software and no ability to discover what it was to try and recover it anymore) and numerous personal memories in the ways of family photos lost among so much more... of all the drives in this system, over half of them now are saying they are IMMINENT failure, and all of them, every single one of them, is either pre-fail or old age, and given that I have always HAD to buy second hand used and abused storage off of ebay, its no surprise that this has become the case.....normally I'd say "oh well, sucks, gonna have to save up and buy new drive replacements again" in the form of more used drives.....but now, the icing on the cake here, and why I'm at my point of typing up this entire post? ''' Paul Le Roux is a fascinating character, whose story entails drugs, gold, arms dealing, North Koreans, Iranians, elite-level encryption, Somali pirates, women...and more women. Let's get into it... Part 1/5 - The Early Years Paul Le Roux was born on Christmas Eve, 1972, in Bulawayo, the second-largest city in what was then called—by the white minority that governed it, at least— Rhodesia. In 1980, Robert Mugabe became prime minister of what would now be called Zimbabwe, ending minority white rule in the country. Four years later, when Le Roux was 12, the family relocated to South Africa. Not long after the move, in exchange for washing his father’s car, Le Roux was given his first computer. After that, a relation of Le Roux states that he became "completely anti-social.” When Le Roux was 15 or 16, in the late 1980s, the local police raided the family home and arrested Paul for selling pornography. After that, Le Roux turned even more inward. Although he was an excellent student, he despised the idea of learning Afrikaans, which was compulsory in South African schools, describing it as "a dead language" that he "didn't want to learn." At 16, he dropped out of high school and decided to follow his interest in computers, taking a local programming course. Family lore has it that after he spent one class explaining some technical fact to the teacher, he got a letter saying he no longer needed to attend. He then completed a year’s worth of material in eight weeks! Accounts of Le Roux do indicate that he was exceptionally gifted, and people who worked with him described him as a genius. After returning from a family holiday to Disneyland in the US, 17-year-old Le Roux decided to leave South Africa, and departed for the UK eight months later to work as a programmer. He then moved from the UK to the US, where he lived in Virginia Beach. After six months in the US, he followed his then-girlfriend Michelle to Australia in 1995. The couple married and Le Roux acquired Australian citizenship. Le Roux frequented message boards and enjoyed trolling Australians. A typical post read: "All of Australia could disappear into the Pacific and the only difference it would make to the World is the Americans would have one less pussy country to protect." His posts caused outrage on the board - someone even changed their handle to fuck @ you.paul Le Roux would later declare that his correspondents had fallen for his ploy: "Australians are east to provoke and your postings (including 2 death threats, numerous flames, and one guy who swears he has my address & phone number) have provided me with hours of amusement." Of course, Le Roux did more than just troll Australian message boards in this period... Le Roux had started building E4M - Encryption for the Masses - in 1997, releasing it at the end of 1998. Part 2/5 - The Turning Point E4M allowed users to encrypt entire hard drives, and to conceal the existence of encrypted files (such that prying eyes wouldn't even know they were there). According to Le Roux, the software was written from scratch, with thousands of hours going into its development and testing. As well as this, in the [Politics section of the E4M website]1 , Le Roux published a sort of Manifesto, describing how "governments are increasingly relying on electronic data gathering" and how "Strong Encryption is the mechanism with which to combat these intrusions, preserve your rights, and guarantee your freedoms into the information age and beyond." In the spirit of the open-source software movement in the late 90s, Le Roux released E4M for free and made the code available for other people to improve. Therefore, with no income from his two years of labor, he was struggling financially. His marriage fell apart violently and the couple got divorced in 1999. Le Roux first relocated to Hong Kong, then to Rotterdam in the Netherlands. He married a Dutch citizen named Lilian, and they had a child shortly after. In 2000, in order to monetize E4M, Le Roux launched [SW Professionals]2 in 2000. Based in South Africa, the company offered offshore programming, including E4M customization. One of Le Roux's clients was an Italian telecoms engineer called Wilfried Hafner, who had corresponded with Le Roux for several years about E4M. Hafner had founded a company to create a commercial encryption product that would combine some of the elements of E4M with another piece of software, Scramdisk. The new company would be called SecurStar, and its product would be called DriveCrypt. Hafner hired Le Roux to build DriveCrypt's underlying engine. At the time, Le Roux was desperate for money - he drove a beat up car and worked out of a Rotterdam apartment small enough that, on the phone, Hafner could often hear a baby crying in the background. Hafner on the other hand was living in the South of France, and Le Roux openly coveted the kind of success that he imagined led to such a home. He told Hafner: "I am ambitious, I want to have all this." However, in the middle of the development work for DriveCrypt, Hafner discovered that Le Roux was still working on E4M and had incorporated some of his work for SecurStar into his personal project. As a result, Hafner terminated Le Roux's contract. By October 2002, SW Professionals was now defunct and Le Roux was openly soliciting for work on the alt.security.scramdisk forum. It was around this time that Le Roux received some news that "shattered his whole world." In 2002, he travelled to Zimbabwe to retrieve a copy of his birth certificate. On the trip, his aunt and uncle pulled him aside to tell him the truth, and it was then that Le Roux found out he was adopted. Although many family members had known for years, Le Roux’s parents had elected to keep him in the dark about it. It was the "unknown" part that hurt him the most. Shortly after, Le Roux appeared on an another set of message boards - he seemed to be launching some kind of moneymaking scheme that required opening a company based in the U.S. In 2004, a group of anonymous developers did exactly what Hafner had feared: they released a new and powerful, free file-encryption program, called TrueCrypt, built on the code for E4M. TrueCrypt combined security and convenience, giving users the ability to strongly encrypt files or entire disk drives while continuing to work with those files as they would a regular file on their computer. Hafner and his SecurStar colleagues suspected that Le Roux was part of the TrueCrypt collective but couldn't prove it. As we'll explore in Part 5, TrueCrypt is an interesting part of this story... Part 3/5 - Money and Power After Le Roux's departure from the encryption world, at least under his own name, he entered the Internet-pharmacy business. What Le Roux did next was combine two of America's favourite past times, popping pills and online shopping, and the results were sensational. He turned over around $300MM in 4 years. In 2007, Le Roux moved his family to Manila, where he would base his operations. He also had call centres in Israel. This was a brilliant move by Le Roux, as the authorities were not looking at Tel Aviv and Jerusalem as hot-spots for a large-scale organised crime operation... Le Roux was moving serious volume during this time - his operation was once one of FedEx's largest customers. A relative of Le Roux pointed to 2008 or 2009 as the point at which Le Roux snapped. "I think the money got to him. I personally saw $100 million in his office in Makati. Cash, bud. It was fucking ridiculous. It was in wicker baskets lined up on the side of the wall in his office." Le Roux's appetite only grew, and not just in the literal sense (he was known as the "Fat Man" in the Philippines): he wanted to be a different kind of businessman, a lord of the real underworld, not just the virtual one. An Israeli associate of Le Roux tells how "Le Roux wanted to make more money, fast. Le Roux wanted to diversify, to be bigger. The only way to do that was illegal. He was living inside a movie, you could almost say." As well as this, Le Roux was notorious for his sexual exploits - he once wrote to his cousin, "15-20 a week, sometimes 3 per night." A former call centre employee tells how Le Roux approached him with an assignment, which at first he thought was collecting women for Le Roux to open a bar. However, that was not the reason, as Le Roux explained: "I'm going to impregnate them, and build an army of kids." Le Roux asked him to make a spreadsheet to track the women: their names, dress size, age, medical checkups. The operation was given top priority by Le Roux, who even sent his emissary to China to try to find women there. It is rumoured that Le Roux has at least 11 children to 7 different women! Le Roux's businesses expanded into logging, precious metals mining, gold smuggling, land deals, cocaine shipping, and arms dealing. These activities were spread across dozens of shell companies registered all over the world. Of course, he needed to launder the money. Le Roux used paid muscle in Hong Kong to swap cash for gold bars, and then proceeded to stash the gold in warehouses in Hong Kong (this totalled around $50MM). Speaking of paid muscle, Le Roux had plenty: ex-soldiers and mercenaries made sure any problems were dealt with force if necessary. Le Roux was closest to ex-British soldier Dave Smith, who would act as the leader of the mercenaries and allow Le Roux to insulate himself and not have to deal with people. In fact, Le Roux once told Smith "I live vicariously through you." However, things took a turn for the worse, at least from Dave Smith's perspective, as Smith stole $5MM worth of Gold from Le Roux. Le Roux was furious. He then summoned Smith to his place in the country, and asked him to dig a hole as they needed to stash some gold. However, when he arrived, he was greeted by a South African hit-man. After the hit-man had finished shooting Smith, Le Roux then grabbed the gun and fired into Smith's corpse. Le Roux then set about building an arms base in Somalia. To achieve this, Le Roux called upon an ex-soldier from Europe, code-named 'Jack' to work for him on the ground in Somalia. At sea, Jack had to bribe Somali pirates. It was actually this activity in Somalia that landed Le Roux on the radar of the DEA, as he popped up in a UN Report on security in Somalia. The DEA were now on his tail. Of course, his encryption skills came in handy - Le Roux's thick layers of encryption meant that the DEA needed someone on the inside... Part 4/5 - "Well played gentlemen, well played" Le Roux was getting more and more paranoid about people in his organisation stealing from him. Without justification, he suspected that his self proclaimed 'Golden Boy' Jack was stealing from him - so he ordered a hit on Jack. This was a huge mistake on Le Roux's part, as Jack then called a CIA hotline and went on the run. It was 18 months later that a DEA investigating Le Roux found Jack's message to the CIA. The DEA agent then called Jack. Scared for his life, Jack agreed to turn informant. In the meantime, Le Roux then had a change of heart and apologised to Jack for ordering the hit on him. The DEA then asked Le Roux to go back to work for Le Roux - they now had someone on the inside. To tempt Le Roux, the DEA devised a sting operation. They knew that Le Roux wanted novelty and excitement. So they fabricated the scenario that Jack had made contact with a high profile Colombian trafficker, and the Colombians wanted to bypass the Mexicans for their meth supply in the US. Le Roux was hooked. However, the DEA needed to lure Le Roux out of Manila, as his network of corrupt officials would ensure he will never be arrested. Jack needed to get Le Roux to Liberia (where the DEA had a trusted ally in Fombah Sirleaf, Head of Liberia's National Security Agency). Jack achieved this by saying that they needed to meet a cartel representative to finalise the deal. It worked, and Le Roux was arrested. Initially, Le Roux went into passive resistance - he was a big unit (hence the nickname "Fat Man") - and it took around 10 agents to get him on the plane to fly back to the US. Part 5/5 - TrueCrypt As we discussed previously, Le Roux was rumoured to be a member of the TrueCrypt collective. In November 2012, a man with the online handle Cincinnatus decided to throw a party in Hawaii. The idea arose out of an email exchange with Runa Sandvik, a developer and expert on the online software Tor, which allows its users to mask the physical location of their computers on the Internet. After she gave a Tor tutorial on Reddit, Cincinnatus sent Sandvik an encrypted message. Cincinnatus told Sandvik that he lived in Hawaii. hello, So its been a long time since i touched monero and i really backed away when washington state became aware of the bitcoin craze. So here are a couple questions and please tell me if there is some were better to post this question(s)
IS it illegal in Washington state to mine? i find the laws to be confusing and do i have to claim on taxes i own digital currency or do i only claim it when i sell/trade it?
I know that mining used to be graphics card based and processor based. is it just processor now?
I have 2 computer. my main unit for gaming, ryzen 1700 first gen with 32gb of ddr4 and gtx1080TI founders. my spare machine is a dell precision laptop with a 2nd gen I7 (so 4 core hyper thread to 8) with 12gb of ddr3 and a Nvidia quadro 1000m. obviously the 1700 will yield a higher reward, but will i still make progress on the laptop? i dont want to kill the life of my 1700 if i dont have to.

Community motion to raise BCH consensus block size to 64MB 2019-07-01
Edit: title should say 2019-08-01 I'm going to keep this brief. I got into this BCH party to develop peer to peer cash. A requirement for the success of our project is that we demonstrate the capacity to scale up onchain by several orders of magnitude. Since the block size was raised this time last year the progress on increasing capacity has been spotty at best. A lot of development has taken place in regards to adding "features", including block propagation scaling, but the developments have been unfocused and critical scaling bottlenecks remain in some clients, most notably Bitcoin ABC. However, AFAIU, all of the other key clients have addressed the most critical bottlenecks. In particular Bitcoin Unlimited, which is now dedicated exclusively to BCH development, is also a popular mining client. One of the things that makes Bitcoin Cash more decentralized than its brethren Bitcoins is that Bitcoin Cash has no official reference client. However this benefit is useless if the community does not exploit it. Another very significant benefit of Bitcoin Cash is that no Bitcoin Cash client has a hard coded block size limit. Every client has a user adjustable block size limit. However, just like decentralized clients, this is a feature that offers no benefit if it's never used. Therefore I propose to the community that on or about 2019-08-01 we agree to raise the block size limit on the BCH chain to a modest 64MB. Developers can support this by releasing a supporting interim patch with defaults changed, or if not, we can produce instructions on how to manually upgrade your node. However an easy solution is simply to switch to Bitcoin Unlimited, Flowee, or another client that has addressed the first order scaling bottlenecks. Q: won't this open the network to fragmentation if some clients can't keep up? A: only if people insist on running clients that can't keep up with current network capacity. Q: shouldn't there be benchmarking before we do this, to ensure it's safe to do? A: yes, there should............??? Q: shouldn't we give time for devs to all agree they're ready? A: Here i agree with deadalnix. We cannot wait for the least productive teams to decide to implement needed changes, because such a policy will allow anyone to obstruct progress indefinitely. Hopefully the awareness that the community intends to make this change with a deadline will encourage developers to reprioritize their work Q: Why do you think this is needed now? Blocks are nowhere near full. A: Because after the fiasco of Microsoft and Dell and Steam and so many others agreeing to support Bitcoin, then getting burned hard on the inability of the network to support their business, we are going to have to prove our production capacity before any of them will return to crypto. Q: why 64MB? Why 2019-08-01? 64MB is a rectal extraction. I would prefer a much larger number, like 128MB or more. If someone has a counterproposal based on objective data, I would prefer that. August 1 2019 is the anniversary date of the BCH split and is therefore a symbolic date to take a next step in scaling as well a wonderful date on which to show the world that BCH is not bound to a single reference client. I came to this party because I strongly believe in the mission of p2p cash, which require very big blocks. I also believe very strongly that BCH is made stronger by not having a centralized reference client. I'm tired of paying lip service to these. As we sometimes say in Texas, you gotta shit, or get off the pot. I look forward to reading everyone's discussion. I bought a Sapphire Pulse Radeon 5700 XT about three weeks ago once the non-blower cards weren't selling out in minutes. Price at the time was $409.99. https://ibb.co/J7DvnYr Some initial thoughts: I didn't realize the power draw at idle would be so low (using Global Wattman) at 9W. I didn't know that the dual fans would actually shut off at low usage and make the card silent. It's much quieter than my old card, an EVGA 1050 Gaming, but I assume that's because it's fan is much smaller. I haven't stressed the card too much, but at least I now have something I can push for the next few years. I can't wait to get a 4k monitor and see what the card can really do. I decided to do a look back on my previous video cards: ATI 9800PRO All In Wonder (January 2005) - $245 - To pair with my NEC 19 inch CRT monitor. I could record TV on my computer, which I thought was amazing at the time (also coincidentally a month before YouTube was founded). EVGA GeForce 8800GTS (G92) (April 2008) - $280 - Much quicker than the 9800PRO, used it for a very long time, but it was really slow towards the end. EVGA 1050 Gaming (November 2017) - $105 - I got this in the middle of the bitcoin mining crisis when every card was at or over MSRP. I thought this would just be a filler card until prices came down, but that turned into about 2 years. Worked ok, but some newer games were a struggle. I do have one question. Now that I have a video card that can support 4k, do you have any suggestions on monitors? I'm currently running dual Acer monitors (24 and 21 inches), but I was thinking of dual 27 inch 4k monitors. Can the 5700 XT handle this? I'm not sure if I absolutely have to have FreeSync, and in the past I've liked Dell's monitors (currently looking at the U2718Q). Thanks!

Can you tell us about what the Open Representative Vote is about and how it protects the network? -(Zach) Nano uses voting to get confirmation on the network instead of mining and the nodes on the network that create votes are called Representatives. Open Representative Voting allows people who have a Nano balance to pick whatever representative they want to vote on their behalf. This allows the people who hold Nano to decide who generates consensus instead of mining companies. The voting process is very efficient and is a big part of what allows Nano to be fee-less and use very little energy. -(Admin) Very good! The last question on my part: Nano PoW is your new approach, I have read a pretty interesting example with emails, can you explain what it is about? -(Colin) Nano PoW is a research project we’re doing in order to create a proof of work algorithm that uses less energy than other popular algorithms. Since Nano is fee-less, there must be a method to limit transactions going onto the network, which this PoW achieves. With the goal of using more memory in the process instead of CPU cycles in order to generate proofs, this new Nano PoW will help prevent ASICs from being able to cheaply send lots of transactions. Transactions are fast because they’re validated by voting. The votes get transmitted around the world in milliseconds and all people have to do is count votes to confirm the transaction.
We use the Dev fund to pay for developing the Nano protocol. The Nano protocol is a free tool that other people can build businesses on. We have ideas for businesses that can use fast, free money in order to help people send money to their family in other countries or pay microtransactions. It’s similar to Linux, it’s free but big companies use it because it saves them money.
Nano uses little electricity because we use voting for validating transactions. Voting is just sending data over the internet which is power efficient.
You can run a nano node with 40-60$/mo using cloud virtual machines
Nano pow is just a more efficient way to slow people down from sending transactions to the network
The most important thing is: why does a company want to use cryptocurrency? They want to use it because it saves them money on bank fees, etc. Since 40-60$/mo running a node is less expensive than their bank fees, they want to participate in the network to keep it going and save them money.
Q - Knowing all this about Nano, could you say that Nano is one of the most energy-efficient, Ecological friendly currencies in existence? A -(Zach) Absolutely. We care about making a positive change in the world and so pride ourselves on leaving as little energy trace possible in the world. It may just be the fastest, most efficient transfer of value available. Q - If the nano protocol had not passed the Red4Sec signature security test, would it have any vulnerability today? A - (Colin) The Red4Sec audit didn’t find any critiral vulnerabilities in Nano. In fact they did the audit twice because they couldn’t find anything wrong and that never happened before. It’s important for us to keep the code high quality and we will do audits again in the future because it’s important to make sure everything is secure. Q - I'd like to see more development of Nano by using SMS on our phones to avoid the problem of no Internet connection at the moment A -(Zach) As much as we like the idea of SMS, unfortunately it is not a secure network so managing Nano transactions over it brings some unique requirements. However we are always innovating and trying to make Nano as easy and accessible as possible so hope advances can help over time make it more accessible in this area. Q - What plans do you have to close this 2019 to increase adoption in Latin America? A -(Colin) We are very excited about the passion we see in the south american community. You've probably been hearing a lot about Bitcoin recently and are wondering what's the big deal? Most of your questions should be answered by the resources below but if you have additional questions feel free to ask them in the comments. The following videos are a good starting point for understanding how bitcoin works and a little about its long term potential:
Limited Supply - There will only ever be 21,000,000 bitcoins created and they are issued in a predictable fashion, you can view the inflation schedule here. Once they are all issued Bitcoin will be truly deflationary. The halving countdown can be found here.
Open source - Bitcoin code is fully auditable. You can read the source code yourself here.
Accountable - The public ledger is transparent, all transactions are seen by everyone.
Decentralized - Bitcoin is globally distributed across thousands of nodes with no single point of failure and as such can't be shut down similar to how Bittorrent works.
Censorship resistant - No one can prevent you from interacting with the bitcoin network and no one can censor, alter or block transactions that they disagree with, see Operation Chokepoint.
Push system - There are no chargebacks in bitcoin because only the person who owns the address where the bitcoins reside has the authority to move them.
Low fee - Transactions fees can vary between a few cents and a few dollars depending on network demand and how much priority you wish to assign to the transaction. Most wallets calculate the fee automatically but you can view current fees here.
Borderless - No country can stop it from going in/out, even in areas currently unserved by traditional banking as the ledger is globally distributed.

Where can I buy bitcoins?
BuyBitcoinWorldwide.com and Howtobuybitcoin.io are helpful sites for beginners. You can buy or sell any amount of bitcoin and there are several easy methods to purchase bitcoin with cash, credit card or bank transfer. Some of the more popular resources are below, also, check out the bitcoinity exchange resources for a larger list of options for purchases.
Here is a listing of local ATMs. If you would like your paycheck automatically converted to bitcoin use Cashila or Bitwage. Note: Bitcoins are valued at whatever market price people are willing to pay for them in balancing act of supply vs demand. Unlike traditional markets, bitcoin markets operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Preev is a useful site that that shows how much various denominations of bitcoin are worth in different currencies. Alternatively you can just Google "1 bitcoin in (your local currency)".
Securing your bitcoins
With bitcoin you can "Be your own bank" and personally secure your bitcoins OR you can use third party companies aka "Bitcoin banks" which will hold the bitcoins for you.
If you prefer to "Be your own bank" and have direct control over your coins without having to use a trusted third party, there are many software wallet options here. If you want easy and secure storage without having to learn computer security best practices, then a hardware wallet such as the Trezor or Ledger is recommended. A more advanced option is to secure them yourself using paper wallets generated offline. Some popular mobile and desktop options are listed below and most are cross platform.
If you prefer to let third party "Bitcoin banks" manage your coins, try Coinbase or Xapo but be aware you may not be in control of your private keys in which case you would have to ask permission to access your funds and be exposed to third party risk.
Another interesting use case for physical storage/transfer is the Opendime. Opendime is a small USB stick that allows you to spend Bitcoin by physically passing it along so it's anonymous and tangible like cash. Note: For increased security, use Two Factor Authentication (2FA) everywhere it is offered, including email! 2FA requires a second confirmation code to access your account, usually from a text message or app, making it much harder for thieves to gain access. Google Authenticator and Authy are the two most popular 2FA services, download links are below. Make sure you create backups of your 2FA codes.
Mining bitcoins can be a fun learning experience, but be aware that you will most likely operate at a loss. Newcomers are often advised to stay away from mining unless they are only interested in it as a hobby similar to folding at home. If you want to learn more about mining you can read more here. After 7 PC builds and as a first time Alienware owner...I don't think I will be going back to DIY builds.
tl;dr - Extremely happy as an Alienware owner. Will continue to purchase Alienware pre-builds as long as the quality remains good. . I used to be one of those PC builders who would scoff at the idea of owning a pre-built PC. I would say they were overpriced, don't perform as well to a DIY, sometimes use unknown OEM parts, etc. I'm sure many of you are familiar with the criticisms leveled against pre-built manufacturers, let's just say I had an attitude of superiority over people that went pre-built, especially something from Dell. . Well now I'm singing a different tune and would like to defend the concept of pre-builts first. . After doing 7 PC builds, it is so refreshing to take a PC out of the box, plug it in and power it up with no hassle or issues. I've done builds where parts either came DOA, had issues during POST, or couldn't get past the BIOS, or temps were too hot that required redoing thermal paste/reseating cooler, or other weird abnormalities that required troubleshooting that could last a week before finally isolating the bad part, etc. I would dread having to do a new PC build because I never know what to expect, either things go smoothly or something goes wrong. It just no longer became fun to do builds anymore. I'm also getting older and I no longer have the patience to tweak parts to make them work optimally. . So the idea that I can go on a website, pick out whatever parts I want for my PC, have it assembled by Dell and then shipped to my door is awesome. I love the convenience. The only thing I swapped out was the GFX card, which was a pretty easy affair. . But why Alienware? Why not NZXT BLD, or iBuyPower, or any of these other companies? Well a couple of reasons. First, I read reviews of the Aurora R8 online with the specs I wanted (i9-9900k, RTX2080ti, etc.) and the components under benchmark testing matched up with results in a DIY build. There were no criticisms regarding the hardware, except for one reviewer that showed FPS results 10-15 frames lower than other RTX2080ti cards (but I suspect the problem lies in some of the other components in that build which may have throttled performance and it wasn't clear what the reviewer's overclock settings were, if any). Just to be on the safe side and taking that on face value, I decided to purchase a card separately. Anyway, so the reviews were good across the board and what you would expect performance wise. The other thing is customer support. Apparently if you run into problems with NZXT BLD and some of these other pre-built manufacturers, you run into non-existent customer support. Well if you are spending a lot of money for a build, I think there needs to be decent enough support to back it. Dell used to be notorious back in the day for having some of the worst customer support, however I looked into recent reports of their service being much better than it used to be. Supposedly Dell invested a ton of money in getting their service up to par. I mean if I ever need some kind of troubleshooting, I'm sure it'll probably start with a guy in India but a lot of the recent feedback I've read seems to reassure folks are taken care of, it seems. Lastly, the prices on Dell pre-builts, especially if you get them during a sale and have an employer discount and whatever else, can come out to being near identical to a DIY with the same specs or even slightly cheaper. I saved roughly ~$1k getting an Alienware during a sale and pretty much came out to the same price as one I did on PCPartsPicker. I guess the DIY market is still reeling from the bitcoin mining craze. Oh and one other thing about Alienware, and I know this sounds silly, but is its reputation. Dell isn't going to risk putting crappy components that could severely damage the brand in the eyes of consumers. Especially a brand that is supposed to be their premier gaming line. Imagine if their lineup had a failure rate of like 30% or something, nobody would ever trust them again. . So anyway, I am extremely happy with how my Alienware is performing. I've already run a lot of stress tests on the components and they match the average of other user results. The only glaring downside is the funky Alienware software, drivers, and typical Windows BS. Really if there is anything to complain about here is how much I dislike Windows OS and much of the software, but none of that is necessarily Alienware's fault except their Command Center. There's a lot of room for improvement. I'm using their OC2 profile for overclocking the CPU @ 5Ghz and RAM @ XMP. I could do this stuff in the BIOS but again I can just click it here in the software which makes the changes in the BIOS for me. Already ran OC Scanner thru Afterburner on my card. . I plan on purchasing more Alienware pre-built PCs in the years to come. I couldn't be happier with the convenience and performance. And I hope the support is good whenever I would need it. Definitely would recommend the brand to those tired of doing their own builds.
I have been reading a lot about the various 27” monitors and was curious what would be the best for me. I don’t really game (maybe one day), mostly use my computer for excel, web browsing, and Netflix/HBO. I do have a good graphics card (1080 GTX) from the days of bitcoins mining. Also, any brands that I should go with? I see Acer and Dells a lot in buildapcsales reddit.
